If you are more interested in producing movies than you are in editing them, you will probably find Corel DVD Movie Factory interesting. This video editing software isn't intended for making heavy edits to movies, though it does have a few of the standard editing options. Another aspect of this application to consider is that it doesn't have 3D capabilities, which is a feature that is readily available in other programs.
When bringing in files to edit there are several different ways to do this. First you can import the files that have been saved to your hard drive. If you want a more direct approach to uploading files into the application, you can use the capture option. This will let you set a time limit on what you want to bring in or just select the whole file. This application works with a variety of devices, including a miniDV, DVD and HDV.
There are parts of this application which are fairly straightforward while other parts are complex. You will probably find it useful to consult the manual or customer service if you run into problems when using the application. Despite the difficulty, we enjoyed using all of the effects, filters and transitions that come with the application. There is an option to download templates if you find you want more choices. We were also pleased with the green screen editing options, but once again it is a little difficult to use some of these features.
This product has a few more options when it comes to disc creation. The video editing software comes with menu templates and the ability to download more if you can't find one that suits your fancy. You can create custom and multi-layer menus, divide your movies into chapters or add music to the menus. When it comes to burning, you can burn an AVCHD, Blu-ray, DVD (single or dual layer), VD or SVCD disc. You can also publish or upload your videos to YouTube or turn them into iPod, PSP, MPEG-1 and 2, MPEG 4, Video CD, Super Video DV, DV/Micro-DV camcorder, RealVideo, WMV, AVI, ASF or MOV video files.
Corel DVD Movie Factory comes with some audio files but not many. You can trim/fade or mix your audio. You can also crossfade the audio and add subtitles. When it comes to images, the options this video editing software has to offer are considerably more limited. All you can do is crop, reside, rotate and pan images. We would've liked to have seen more features in this area so we could've considered this application above average.
DVD Movie Factory could be more user-friendly, but the setup is quick and the product support is adequate. You will find an email address and phone number for technical support on their homepage. There is also a little information in the way of FAQs and a user forum but it doesn’t contain much in regards to this video editing software.
Overall, Corel DVD Movie Factory has some good options when it comes to basic video editing, but this is not where its main focus lies. There are plenty of options for adding effects, but the effects are minimal and you will have better luck with another program if you want to do anything too complex or in 3D.
Pros
This application has a lot of disc creation options.
Cons
This is more of a video producing application than an editing application.
This product is great if you don't have complex edits to make.
